TenPoint Titan M1 Crossbow Review

TenPoint Titan M1, Pro-View Scope, ACUdraw

  • Complete overhaul of our best-selling model

TenPoint’s most popular model, the Titan, is now available in the M1. They’ve taken all the great features from previous versions and added them to the M1. Its greatest draw is its incredible value. The Titan M1 is still an advanced TenPoint model, but it’s affordable. The Titan M1 is an excellent choice for experienced archers who want a powerful crossbow to hunt large and mid-sized games.

You can use the Titan M1 to kill your bull or trophy buck. The Titan M1 has a bolt speed up to 370 FPS and strikes with 116 FPKE kinetic energy using the bolts. This is enough to kill large quarries such as moose, elk, and bears.

TenPoint’s faster models are available, but 370 FPS is still a blistering speed. This gives you pinpoint accuracy and allows for hunting on flat terrain. This is a great option for Westies who enjoy long wilderness hunting trips and stalking games such as deer or elk over several days.

Its sleek camo finish makes the Titan M1 useful in rough terrain. It can blend in with mountain and winter landscapes thanks to its nuanced gray and tan tones. However, deer can have trouble seeing colors so it is also useful in wooded areas.

We would have to point out the 9-inch axle-to-axle distance on this TenPoint model. It is one of the widest crossbows in TenPoint’s line. However, it is still 5 inches narrower thanks to VX-5 cams.

Although this ATA should not be a problem, it can be awkward in a blind or tree stand if you are a larger man. You can still take advantage of the longer power strokes offered by the new cams. This allows the crossbow’s bolt to be accelerated for longer before it is released, which improves accuracy.

The included Pro-View 3 scope allows you to use this accuracy for long distances. The scope has crosshairs at 20, 30, 40, and 50 yards, and a dot at 50 yards. It’s also illuminated to allow you to hunt in the darkest hours of the day when deer and other game animals are most active. You can adjust the illumination to match your preferences.

The Titan M1 is fast and powerful enough to hunt big game and experienced hunters, but it’s also easy for beginners. We recommend it for those who are serious about bowhunting. This is largely due to the many features that come with the package.

It comes with three carbon bolts. These bolts are lightweight but strong and fly straight. The package also includes a lightweight attachment quiver with 3 bolts that can be used to reload your crossbow if it misses its first shot. The ACUdraw cocking device makes loading and cocking your crossbow easy. It reduces the draw weight by 5 pounds. This makes it easy for even the most novice bowhunter.

Pros:

Great value

370 FPS – Fast and accessible

116 FPKE sufficient for big game

Advanced VX5 Cams

Accuracy of included scope over 4 distances

Included are 3 carbon bolts

Attached quiver included

5-pound draw weight using ACUdraw cocking aid

Cons:

Wide ATA

TenPoint models are larger than others

Assembly a little difficult

TenPoint Vengent S440 Hunting Crossbow Package Review

  • TenPoint Vengent S440 Hunting Crossbow package with ACUslide, RangeMaster Scope, Graphite, and One SizeMICROTRAC BARREL reduces string-to rail contact by 50%. This results in increased accuracy and a longer string life for hunting crossbows.
  • The S1 TRIGGER 2-stage zero creep design has a roller seam system that sets new standards in high-performance crossbow accuracy. It delivers lightning-fast speeds of up to 440 FPS
  • ACUSLIDE COCKING AND DE-COCKING SYSTEM Provides safe and silent de-cocking

TenPoint’s Vengent S440 model is a top-shelf model. It has features and specs that exceed industry standards, which makes it difficult to find elsewhere. Although it is not as easy to use for beginners, it offers consistent and solid archery that can be relied upon by frequent bowhunters, season after season.

The Vengent S440’s narrow ATA width is the most distinctive feature. It measures 5.8 inches and is one of the smallest in the TenPoint line. It is ideal for stand hunting, especially when you are using small climbing tree stands. Larger ATAs can get caught on objects, which could lead to you missing a shot or making noises that scare off your quarry.

The narrow ATA has a 35 inch longer length without the foot stirrup. This might be more comfortable for taller archers. However, it is important to remember when using blinds or tree stands.

The longer length allows for greater speed and power. The Vengent S440 can shoot bolts at a staggering 440 FPS and produces up to 166 FPKE kinetic energy. This crossbow can be used for any game, from bear to buffalo.

The high bolt speed also means greater accuracy over long distances. This model can capture shots that other models won’t be able, regardless of whether it’s in large feeding areas from tree stands or when tracking big game through mountain valleys.

The S1 trigger is another key feature of Vengent S440, which improves accuracy. TenPoint spent much time researching and investing in its roller sear design, which features zero creep and a 3.5-pound pull. This allows you to control the shot’s timing and prevents you from jerking your arms when you pull the trigger. This allows for consistent and accurate shots.

We should also mention the high-quality construction and craftsmanship TenPoint has put into this model. This model features a MICROTRAC barrel, which eliminates half the friction from the bowstring compared to previous models. It improves accuracy through consistent firing and, perhaps most importantly, saves your bowstring from wear. This could be a great way to save money if you are a regular bowhunter who is serious about archery.

Let’s look at the accessories included. Vengent S440 comes with 6 carbon bolts, and an attached quiver to store them all. This package is great value for money as carbon bolts can be expensive. ACUslide is a cocking system that reduces noise and includes the RangeMaster Pro Scope and a bubble level. You can take on every aspect of the hunt, so you’re sure to have the best chance at success.

Pros:

Super slim 5.8-inch ATA

Fast and precise 440 FPS

The advanced S1 trigger system

Bowstring is saved by MICRO-TRAC

6 carbon bolts included

Attached is a quiver featuring a large 6-bolt capacity

Scope and bubble level are required for fine adjustment

Cons:

Awkward 35-inch length

It is difficult to replace cables

TenPoint Vapor RS470 Xero Elite Crossbow Package Review

TenPoint Vapor RS470 Xero Elite Crossbow Package

  • Garmin XERO X1i digital crossbow scope automates range up to 250 yards with a single button.
  • The precise illuminated aim points adjust automatically for distance and brightness, allowing you to see your target clearly without reticle patterns.
  • Gone are the days of “gap shooting” with multiple aim points – range, lock and use the single aiming spot provided by the XERO X1i. ACUslide Silent Cocking & Safe De-Cocking System

TenPoint’s top model, the Vapor RS470, is for elite bowhunters who are experienced and know their way around hunting. The Vapor RS470 is made in the USA and boasts advanced features and specs that will increase your chances of success in the field.

Vapor RS470’s 470 FPS bolt speed is what makes it stand out. This is a rare crossbow that can match it. This gives you 191 FPKEs of kinetic energy. This high number accomplishes a lot. Bolt speed allows you to be precise even over long distances of up to several hundred yards. The kinetic energy punctures tissues and bones without deflecting, increasing the likelihood that the bolt will reach the kill zone.

This model offers a significantly increased range even when hunting big games such as bull moose and elk. TenPoint added the Garmin Xero X1i dual rangefinder and scope to complete this package.

The Xero scope is not a reticle scope. Instead, it measures the distance to the target and provides a single precise aiming point for games up to 250 yards from the target. This eliminates a lot of guesswork when compared to other scopes that only provide crosshairs and dots for ranges up to 10 yards. The scope can also be connected to other Garmin devices, allowing you to store rangefinding information so that you can track your shot after it is successful.

The Vapor RS470 is a high-end crossbow model that uses modern design techniques such as a skeleton stock. This reduces weight, making it easier to hold the crossbow steady and take more precise shots. It is also stronger and more durable.

The MICROTRAC barrel also reduces friction so that you can take more shots and not have to replace your string. It’s not a good idea to break your string just as the trophy buck that you have been following for days is finally revealed.

TenPoint included many of their accessories in the package, as they did with other models. It includes 6 high-quality carbon bolts, which are even lighted to make it easier for you to find them or track down your quarry more quickly if they are not.

The quiver comes with 6 bolts and 3 CenterPunch mechanical wide heads. Because they penetrate deeply into animals while not causing tissue damage, mechanical broadheads are ideal for big game hunting. TenPoint includes them because they aren’t too expensive.

TenPoint’s S1 trigger provides more control. The ACUslide draw weight cocking system reduces draw weight to allow for easier cocking. The Vapor RS470 comes with a sling, soft case, and a bag for transporting and storing the crossbow.

Pros:

Blistering 470 FPS bolt speed

Powerful 191 FPKE

Advanced Garmin Xero X1i rangefinding scope

Effective lightweight design

6 bolts and 3 broadheads included

S1 trigger system

Ships assembled

Cons:

The price range for top-of-the-line products

Our Guide to the Top TenPoint Crossbows

The History of TenPoint

It helps to know a bit about TenPoint crossbows and how you can find the best one for you. Rick Bednar founded it. He grew up archery and was guided by Bill Bednar (member of the Archery Hall of Fame). Rick grew up in an apartment next to the archery shop his parents owned.

Rick Bednar, an adult, purchased his parents’ archery shop. He then entered into a partnership agreement with Horton Crossbow Manufacturing Company. He realized the potential for crossbows and decided to start his own company to create quality crossbow models that would suit the needs of bowhunters.

Rick Bednar, along with other investors, founded Hunter’s Manufacturing Company in 1994. They would later rename TenPoint Crossbow Technologies. TenPoint saw double-digit growth every year through the 1990s until 2003 when it experienced a boom in the market thanks to the elimination of crossbow restrictions across many states.

TenPoint’s 27-year history has seen the development of over 90 patents in crossbow technology. They include the VibraCrush sound dampening device, Dry-Fire Inhibitor, as well as the ACUdraw cocking and ACUslide systems.

TenPoint’s patents have significantly improved hunting crossbows. Their Vector Quad Cable System, and innovative cams, enabled them to break the 400-FPS bolt speed barrier in 2018.

The company also owns Wicked Ridge Crossbows which makes models that are more suitable for beginners. TenPoint manufactures both crossbow brands in Mogadore Ohio.

Bolt Speed and Kinetic Energy

People tend to first look at kinetic energy and bolt speed. These numbers reflect the power of a crossbow. It is important to fully understand what these numbers mean before you buy the most expensive model.

Bolt speed can be measured in feet per second. You’ll also see it abbreviated to FPS. Bolt speed is an important factor in the bolt’s penetrative power, but it is not the only benefit. High bolt speeds increase range and accuracy.

Bolts fall quickly when they leave the crossbow. If they travel faster they will cover more distance before they drop. Because they fly straighter, it makes it easier to make accurate shots. You’ll also be able to shoot farther distances because the bolt will travel farther before touching the ground.

Although many hunters check the bolt speed to determine how effective the crossbow is in hunting large game, the kinetic energy is a more precise spec. This is because kinetic energy, as you may recall from high school physics, is simply the product of multiplying half the mass and twice the velocity squared.

Also, heavier bolts will produce more kinetic energy at higher speeds. Your crossbow will fire heavier bolts slower. This can be calculated for your particular setup. However, to get an idea of the power of your crossbow, you can refer to the FPKE rating. FPKE is short for foot-pounds of kinetic energies and can be measured using a standard 400-grain bolt.

You can kill more game if you have a higher FPKE rating. The bolt must penetrate deeper to reach vital organs such as the heart and lungs, so the bigger the animal the better. This is possible with more kinetic energy. It can also be used to slice through harder tissue and bone, without having to stop or glance off.

All TenPoint models in our list have high bolt speeds and lots of kinetic energy. Two models even exceed 400 FPS. This was for a long period the highest speed crossbows were capable of.

ATA Width & Length

The “ATA width” of your compound crossbow will be the measurement between the axles of two cams.

The compound crossbow is already very narrow, but some are a few inches wider than others. Because it is easier to maneuver, a narrow crossbow can be very useful in the field.

Two main problems arise when a wide crossbow gets caught on something. If a deer or another animal is within range of your crossbow, it could catch on something, which can lead to time being wasted and possibly even cause you to lose your quarry. It could also make noises, which can scare away the quarry.

Crossbows that are narrow and compact can be used in blinds or tree stands where space is limited. This is especially true when climbing tree stands have little space for your body. Stand hunters should strive to obtain the narrowest ATA rating possible.

Design Features

Manufacturers can add a little extra flair to the crossbow by adding some craftsmanship. This is where TenPoint excels.

Many TenPoint crossbows have skeleton stocks, for example. The stock is a large chunk of material that has been removed from the middle. TenPoint’s modern manufacturing process and polymer materials mean that a solid stock is not necessary. The crossbow can be used with the stock’s skeleton, which is very sturdy, but it weighs much less.

You should be aware of your weight. Bowhunting is a time-limited sport. You only have one chance to make sure your quarry is in range and properly oriented before you can reach the kill zone. While you’ll need to raise your crossbow and be ready to shoot, it is important to keep it in place for several minutes.

It’s much easier to use a lighter crossbow. It will also be lighter to carry around. Try to choose lightweight whenever possible.

Weights for Cocking and Drawing

Crossbows can be very powerful but they are difficult to cock. The bowstring is very strong and holds a lot of tension. Crossbows with draw weights exceeding 200 pounds can be cocked easily. This is because it takes as much effort to cock the bowstring as lifting 200 pounds off of the ground. TenPoint is a leader in the development of cocking aids to help overcome heavy draw weights.

The ACUdraw is their most basic cocking system. It involves attaching a hook to the string. You can then slowly cock your bowstring using a crank inside the stock.

TenPoint’s most elite models also have the ACUslide, which is an upgrade to the ACUdraw. The crank mechanism is also used, but it’s integrated into the crossbow and designed for silence. You can use this method to cock your crossbow on the field without causing any damage.

Trigger Systems

Triggers might seem like a small part of your crossbow but they can make a huge difference in the hunt. Creep is the biggest problem. Creep is the amount of pull you can make to the trigger before the bowstring releases and the shot takes place. Creep is bad because it reduces your control over the moment of your shot. This can lead to decreased accuracy and timing.

The pull weight is another important aspect of the trigger system. The pull weight is the force required to fire the crossbow. It’s usually about a few pounds.

Trigger pull is a compromise. You may need to pull harder, which can cause you to jerk or slash your arm. If the pull is too light you may miss your target and shoot before you are meant to. Trigger pull is a personal preference, but bowhunters and archers generally prefer lighter trigger pulls.

TenPoint crossbows have the S1 trigger system. It is designed to be very light and provide control with a pull of 3.5 pounds.

Scopes

Crossbow accuracy has been greatly improved by modern scopes. TenPoint packages come with a scope.

These scopes are most commonly reticle scopes. These scopes include dots or crosshairs for different ranges. The crosshair for 20 meters will be slightly shorter than the one for 10, so you need to raise the crossbow slightly to compensate.

These scopes are excellent, but TenPoint has upgraded its rangefinders to include top-of-the-line models. You should look for rangefinding scopes capable of accurately measuring the distance to your target and providing an exact aiming point.

Additional Accessories and Features

TenPoint’s ready-to-hunt packages come with a variety of accessories and features that will increase your chances for a successful hunt. These accessories include bolts and quivers. Accessories such as cases and slings can be purchased to help you carry or store your crossbow.

Camo finishes are a cool feature worth noticing. Consider the terrain in the area you are planning to hunt. You should check to make sure the crossbow you are interested in is available in a camo design that blends in with the environment. TenPoint has many options when it comes to crossbow finishes so that you are adequately camouflaged.

Assembly

Finally, you should consider whether crossbows require assembly. TenPoint offers models that are fully assembled, while others require you to assemble them yourself. Crossbows that require assembly are generally less expensive but still require some knowledge. There’s always the chance of making mistakes, so make sure you do it right.

Last Thoughts

TenPoint offers a wide range of crossbow models that are reliable and can be used in a variety of situations.

The Titan M1 is a great option if you have a tight budget and still need high-quality craftsmanship and precise specs.
